The commune of Marzabotto is formed by 42,70% of industrial facilities (Basf, Dimesco, Chell italiana, …). These infrastructures have a limited lifecycle. It is necessary to propose some strategies for dismantling all these areas, as well as its integration in the scenery that surrounds them. New territorial research center, well known as “life style academy” is proposed in order to discuss alternatives to these industries over time and the development of a new way of inhabiting the territory.

New facade system is proposed in the Dimesco’s old paper factory, according to the climatology of the site and the current status of the existing concrete structure. The study of this constructive element allows to develop a program of winter indoor school with student residence and workshop and exhibition area for summer. Entrance with covered market is proposed in the intersection volume with common areas and restaurant.

The new facade is built by available existing materials, as the crushing of brick walls for exterior pavings, the recycling of the glass windows for the new front or the casting of the metal for the new structure. It is also proposed a row of deciduous trees on the south facade in order to protect from summer sunlight, as well as the train noise. The new roof collects and filters rainwater in order to watering the new orchards.

All these actions helps to diminish the cost in construction and maintenance, reduce the energy expenses, decrease the new materials by 60% and the development of new construction systems to occupy all the industrial structures of this commune according to the existing natural resources of this unique environment.
