We believe that the interior of a church is a self-contained and rightful architectural statement. This also applies to St. Jodokus in Waghäusel. In our concept for the modernisation of the church, we have placed a focus on the redesign of a central space in the nave. The solution is to create an exceptional, uniquely versatile exhibition and concert hall in the church that can accommodate a wide range of public events without compromising the liturgical rules or the existing building fabric, interior design or key artefacts of the church.

What should such a space look like and with what technical and architectural means can it be realised? We see it as a «white pavilion» – a conditional «building» within a church building that can be flexibly redesigned or hidden during a service, depending on the scenario of an exhibition or a performance. Inside the «pavilion», the person has a new spatial experience, loses contact with the outside world and forgets where they are.

This allows one to focus on an exhibit or performer. Contemporary art can be quite bold and epathetic in its expression, so the pavilion has the possibility to hide and isolate what is happening inside the church.
