The main purpose of a bridge is connection, making possible the union between two sites where topography and natural elements make it difficult or impossible. Moreover, in our case, this connection improves the existing itinerary of «Kraika main tourist route». There is no need to write much about the virtues of the existing trail and the spectacular views on the Dnieper riverside, but it should be pointed out how this new footbridge for pedestrians and cyclists improves the sequence of paths along the existing Kraika route.

Its proximity to the Historical Center of Kyiv provides the bridge the possibility of having a balcony above the most recognizing skyline of the city.

The union between the parks of «Khreschatiy» and «Volodymyrska Hirka» and between the two districts of the city is especially relevant, due to the uniqueness of the place where it is located. The new bridge has the potential to offer a new attractive route that would connect other existing paths. Its proximity to the Historical Center of Kyiv provides the bridge the possibility of having a balcony above the most recognizing skyline of the city.

The bridge is drawn with a curvy geometry and increases its width at the central point, bringing the people closer to the city and providing spectacular views to the main city landmarks such as the Ukrainian House, the Maidan Nezalezhnosti or the Golden Dome Church.

The project plan aims a geometric integration and connection with the existing site sections. There is also a concern to offer a clear and a simple geometry to accentuate the image of the existing monuments. The increase of the width at the central point of the footbridge and its curvy geometry brings closer the people to the city and provides spectacular views.

Around the area of Druzhby Narodiv Arch the intervention tries to reach a minimal impact to maintain the configuration of the site. On the other side, close to the Monument of Prince Volodymyr, the footbridge widens offering a new space before the arrival to the mainland. In this perforated platform, crossed by existing trees, some benches are placed to stay with the possibility to locate some outdoor commercial activity.

The new footbridge is not competing in scale and magnificence with the existing monuments and cultural landmarks, but it pursues to link them and enable new view sights to enrich the sequence of Kraika route. In fact, along the nearly two hundred linear meters of the route, the user passes through different situations in relation with the trees and the views. In this sense, the route is worked out not only in plan but also in section, having a beautiful and spectacular proximity to trees at different times along the way.

The railing and the overall lightweight configurations facilitate a high transparency. The bottom part of the bridge is an important element that will be also contemplated by many people, so the structure has to be attractive from that point of view. the indirect lighting planned will enhance the geometry of the platform.
