The intention of the competition “Les Portes de Collserola” consists in bringing forward new approaches to the relationship between the north strip of the city of Barcelona and Collserola’s park, being aware that the contact between city and park cannot be easily solved just with a simple boundary line defining two different urban areas.

The competition tackles the design of these park-city interrelation spaces from a geographic perspective and a functional logic, looking for backbones that could be able to bring together natural and urban areas.

The “Portes de Collserola” are corridors in which nature is strengthened inside the park and goes down to the city, as a great re-naturalization action.

The pre-selected teams were requested to propose comprehensive interventions in order to maximize the environmental value of built spaces and green areas, to restore the architectural heritage, fountains and other valuable elements, to solve the accessibility and the connection between the urban parks and Collserola Mountain, and to design the appropriate facilities to stimulate a fluent relationship between the city and the park.

Park-street is a new kind of urban space that connects city’s green spaces (parks and nature reserves) and acts as a filter between them and the dense urban fabric. Park Street is characterized by the flexibility and renaturalitzation of urban space, increasing tree density and eliminating the road hierarchy characteristic of our city streets. Park Street is a street with no predefined use, neutral, where the uses are regulated by schedule, being able to be adapted to the changing needs of citizens. The project addresses the application over time of the Park Street at Sarria and plans to extend it connecting the 16 Doors of Collserola, the urban parks of the city and the sea.
