The international competition was held to redevelopment of Piazza Libertà because the Municipality wanted the new configuration of the central public place. Over time, Piazza Libertà has gradually lost its original articulation (remained in place until the end of the ’30s), characterized by a dynamic alternation of openings generated by foreparts built monumental (church and convent of San Francesco and Rosario).

The project confronts the lead of historical memory assuming as director conceptual the relationship between the space and the prospective urban landscapes of the mountains, it’s working on topographical dimension soil interpreted as lilting and rhythmic variation of travel time and rest. The forecast of the underground car park and the road tunnel under-crossing innervating the site of a strong infrastructure to dynamic acceleration defining fact of Piazza Libertà as a real urban hub.

Piazza Libertà is the perfect place for the meeting, the show, exchange and reflection, between the old town and the city nineteenth-twentieth century on the axis of Corso Vittorio Emanuele II.

The urban system Corso Vittorio Emanuele II_Via Nappi (on which set Piazza Libertà) stood between the compact old town to the east and west Viale Italia that relaunches the city to the territory in the direction of Naples.

The urban axis is transformed from a tree-lined avenue (Viale Italia) still mindful of the historic «avenue of poplars along a mile» in the double curtain Urban «Corso» which finds its pivot in the western park of the “Villa Comunale” (Ex botanical garden). Our project proposed Piazza Libertà as «square-park». This allows you to mediate and guide the visual glimpses towards the Centro Storico enhancing both the extraordinary prominence of the mountains that form the backdrop that the architectural elements emerging (Town of Light).

The natural elements (green and water) contribute to the structuring of an complex urban space which is related with the invariants of landscape planning.

The urban landscape elements play a synergistic role in the project, allowing you to organize multiple spatial areas that diversify the potential uses and meet.

The building facades on the square are hierarchical in their perception, the northern and western fronts, are enhanced and relaunched along the prospective while for the grandeur of the south face you operate a sort of «reduction and re-scale» making interact with a sequence of linear green spaces now time to lawn or stain causing a perception that «filtered» sensitive to changes in natural light and the seasons make the plan more varied wall and measurable human scale. The morphological landscape plan found in the territory Irpino, rich pasture-meadows-forests and valleys often in combination with mirrors lakes and streams, the reference analog-metaphorical allows you to create multiple, original and unusual points of view. The ground is modelled on a rhythm of inclined planes and horizontal east-west allows you to organize a series of thematic events and micro spatial areas.
