The Community House is a proposal for an active meeting point for the village Søllested, which can improve the quality of offers and activities in the everyday life for the residents. The Community House will also support the community by creating the framework for associational life that can strengthen the resilience of the community in the future by taking care of local interests.

A fundamental idea for the project is to reduce the distance between the urban community and the surrounding agriculture, and therefore we propose a strategy where the Community House is a center for a local network and food community between residents of the village and the local farmers. We see a largely unused potential for trade and production of local products which can contribute positively to the community in terms of employment, identity, and increasing the attractiveness of the village.

The Community House is located in the village’s center, which today is located between the school and sports facilities. The local retail store and production kitchen is situated in the center of the house and connects to a multifunctional hall, a library, a post office and a health center.

The architecture takes inspiration from the local building style and motifs from the traditional barn and farm buildings. The lower part of the structure is built of recycled bricks from the area.

The Community House is a proposal for a cooperative center acting as a catalyst for a positive future development for rural communities based on its existing resources.
