Three Stor(e)y project is designed to meet the key aspects of the call, providing an introspective space far from the urban life where people can clear their mind developing creativity in any specific area. The name arises because the project represents the core concept through three different scales: the Place, the Building, the Space.
Bussana Vecchia is a village built on the top of a hill near SanRemo, long the north Mediterranean coast. The story of this village is unique because it was badly damaged by an earthquake in 1887. Bussana was in a state of abandonment till the early 60s, when a small group of artists, mainly foreign, began to take over parts of the village, taking care of the ruins. Later the artists were joined by clusters of permanent occupants who stayed all the year round and open shops and craft workshops. So nowadays the village is known as the “Artists Village”.
This place is the perfect environment for the Inspiration Hostel, because reflect the aim and the main aspects of the call, and it can give an added value to the project.
The Three Storey building is located on the east side of Bussana Vecchia, next to the village but at the same time hidden, guaranteeing isolation, inspiration and meditation for artistspiritual retreats. In order to realize this purpose, the building fits organically long the slope of the hill, so it is a private space from the modern chaos and external factors, according to enhance the relationship between the artistic creativity and the nature.
The only visible thing from Bussana of our building is a clear ‘cut’ through the soil of the slope, in which we design the flight of steps leading to the top floor of the Hotel. Here you can enter through the Lobby that has a double purpose: introducing the visitors to the public Gallery and receiving the artists. In this floor there are also located private spaces such as the Library and two multifunctional rooms.
