☉ Àgora is a winning proposal by Aquidos Adrià Escolano and David Steegmann for Ajuntament de Matarò in 2024. It is located in Matarò Spain in an urban setting. Its scale is medium with a surface of 1.418 sqm. Key material is plaster. Kaleidos collaborated as visualizer.
The proposal divides the plot into four parts generating a sequence of built-up and green strips. On the west side, the main built body houses the civic center on the ground floor and the homes on the upper floors, adapting to the different alignments of the environment and covering the partitions of the adjacent buildings. The next strip, a landscaped public space under the shade of the trees, incorporates the accesses to all the programs and allows you to cross the plot from north to south. Follow the multipurpose room with its services; an enclosure delimited by a low wall that follows the contour of the plot and solves the topographical complexity of the point with a landscaped courtyard at the east end, increasing the drainage surface.
Extending towards the interior of the plot as an extension of Carrer Transversal, a new square opens up to the public space by constructing a facade that gives level-footed access to all the programs of the complex. Tangent stairs to the multipurpose room and accompanied by a planted slope connect the square with Carrer Muntanya, avoiding the appearance of retaining walls given the significant difference in level between the two streets. Three porches flanking the square protect each access point.
