This built form of the school building in this proposal creates a variety of overlapping spaces with varying levels of public and private character.

It encloses a park space sheltered from its exposed surroundings. The main core is closed to the public in school hours, during which time it offers to the young students semi private yards that push into the green park space as an alternative to the more sheltered and private spaces directly adjacent to the classrooms. The simple geometrical forms that start at the street guide you through the site and help to form patio enclosures. These semi private spaces offer a sense of safety and enclosure to the school as well as exposure to their own slice of nature.

Outside of school hours it becomes a public park and allows further access to the event spaces, amphitheatre and pier beyond. The garden is overlooked from above by the public roof terrace that provides uninterrupted access to these public spaces during school hours. The pier, amphitheatre and event room act in contrast to the park in their open nature and exposure to the river.

The result of this proposal is a school that offers a variety of spaces, environments and experiences for its young students, a building that opens itself to the public whilst not compromising its educational function and a series of shared spaces of distinct public character.
