Casa de la cultura en Los Molinos is a winning proposal by Estudio DIIR for Ayuntamiento de Los Molinos in 2018. It is located in Los Molinos Spain in an urban setting. Its scale is medium with a surface of 1.300 sqm a budget of 1.500.000 € and a ratio of 1.154 €/sqm. Key material is wood.

Citizen demands are directed towards unprogrammed spaces. Places able to satisfy the spontaneous and unpredictable activities of its inhabitants, urban scenarios with unlimited possibilities.

The main desire resides in updating and adapting the building to actual needs. Simple strategies and subtle operations implemented as devices (Device 1/ Device 2) allow us to experiment with pre-existence and discover its capacity for transformation. These devices, that work as containers of services, along with its linear condition, create spaces in which multitude configurations may occur.

The intervention in the outer space, deliberately reduces the range of gestures that can be synthesised in three operations: connection with the city, creation of a large hall of events and development of an active front. In this way, the value of the proposal lies in understanding the public space as a scenario, a place with the necessary flexibility to respond to the uncertainties of a society in continuous change.
