The Eleonore school complex is located in the Hautepierre district of Strasbourg. Its renovation was conceived and designed as a collection of unique spaces. Its renovation was thought and designed as a collection of unique spaces. These spaces take turns throughout the children’s day. They are positioned in a logical manner, with the different program elements in mind. Their architecture characterises them according to their needs they meet.

The use of sustainable and bio-sourced materials to enhance the existing built heritage offers a new interpretation of the site, while the grid layout of the Hautepierre district gives the school and its surroundings a central, privileged position. The ground floor areas of the nursery schools are oriented towards sheltered outdoor spaces. They are surrounded by vegetation. Existing concrete is reused to create a thick gabion wall that surrounds and protects the schools. The rustic mineral nature of these elements, some of which welcoming climing vegetation, contrasts with the current rigid appearance of the buildings.

The upper wooden floor of the nursery schools is lighter than the ground floor and blends in with the treetops. The hut effect is a real change of scenery every day! The common rooms are either destined to school or extra-curricular (activity workshops and multi-purpose room) and face the primary school courtyard, or are open to all (development room) and face the urban footpath.
