Imagine entering in the artificial forest made out of piano strings. Some resonate when you activate them, other mysteriously answer to you from afar, like a sounding dialogue between human and building. It is exactly what this Latvian Pavilion is: a sound experience, a string music instrument where visitors can slip in.

Vertical lines and a canopy: this instrument shapes itself as a sounding forest, as a place where people can hear music in a Latvian landscape. On the ground moss, spruce and pine create a typical Latvian soil. Above the ground, a wooden path slowly brings the visitor toward the top and the core of this musical forest, in a meandering and immersive experience.

176 sounding aluminium rods dangle from the canopy. 88 are controlled by the visitors and the other 88 other rods, controlled by a computer via an electromagnetic switch, are answering, resonating to what happens. An ecosystem working through cooperation. The lightness and strength of the metal are counterbalanced by the aesthetic and ecological features of Latvian wood in the finishing and furniture. It illustrates the dialogue Latvia want to instate between sustainable thinking, high cultural and technological development, the openness of the pavilion inviting people around the world for trade and cooperation.

Visitors can discover stories about Latvia following a serpentine wooden path, designed as an exhibition space.

Through its meanders, this path is morphing an amphitheatre and a stage, the strings around creating a screen for light performances. Moreover, a bar, a design souvenir shop and a hall for entrepreneur meetings, conferences or video sessions are accessible in the core of the instrument, with all the support functions.

The Latvian pavilion is an instrument, a sounding forest offering an immersion in Latvian nature, culture and technologies. It is the landscape of Latvian sound and identity, equipped with artificial intellect, turning visits into sensitive experiences. It depicts Latvia as a vibrating ecosystem, growing through people creativity and global synergy. Latvia’s wish to choose a more humane future is put in practice by joining creative minds, technology and nature together in a unique building.
