For centuries, man has molded nature to his needs, desires and interests. Today, facing the opportunity to intervene in a place whose nature is still the only protagonist, we understand that there is only one way to respond: touching the earth lightly, raising the atmosphere of the place, through a sensitive dialogue between its identity elements and the creation of a set of planes that land and dialogue with them, creating spaces that encourage staying in contact with the natural environment.

In this way, the Serreta Viewpoint is understood not only as a path that culminates in a magnificent view of the sea, but as a set of spaces for contemplation and interpretation, which are unveiled along a path, making this place a space where a sense of exploration and connection with nature is encouraged, inviting people to enjoy its rhythms, times, colors, textures, smells and sounds.

The proposal consists of three acts. The first goes through the identification of pre-existing moments that are important to highlight: the entrance to the forest, the ruins of ancient «currelatas», a clearing next to a remnant of a wall and a promontory at the end of the ravine that opens to the sea and the horizon. The second comprises the creation of a set of white planes lightly placed in dialogue with the natural elements that, assuming subtle and celebrated forms, stand out by contrast and create comfortable spaces, which allow their appropriation, permanence and fruition.

The third, through the use of a single material, aims to create a strong identity, which refers to the dichotomous relationship between nature and man, between organic and rigid forms, between the smoothness of white lime paint and the roughness of volcanic black stone. The identity of Terceira Island is intrinsically related to the majesty of its nature and landscape.

This is the main reason why thousands of people visit the island, imbued with the desire to disconnect from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, immersing themselves in the intense natural parks, forests and trails that make it up. The proposal we make here is to create yet another special place, which through a comprehensive, sensitive and subtle touch with the earth, integrates into this natural identity system of Terceira Island, enhancing the enjoyment of nature in its maximum splendor.
