. The «Campus de la Transition» in Forges, south-east of Paris, is an alternative educational institution located on the grounds of an extensive baroque castle. Research into sustainable cultivation methods could be of great importance for the social transition the campus is striving for and also strengthen the connection to the village. As a place of production outside the village, the enclosure needs a building for storage, sorting and recreation. The type of field barn therefore seems appropriate for the location, as it conveys a certain pragmatism. And yet, as a symbol of its time, the building is intended to serve as a test bed for future-oriented methods. The function is closely linked to the construction and materialisation. A combination of solid rammed earth walls and a cantilevered roof is proposed in order to save on costly cold storage technology. The formwork anchors of the walls remain in the rammed earth and serve to fasten the timber frame construction of the roof truss. The shuttering boards are reused as shingles in the gable and knee wall facade.
