The renovation of the Pestalozzi school building (main building) aims to change the existing structure as little as possible and to meet the requirements of a modern school. The starting point is the exposed concrete façade, the load-bearing walls and the position of the stairs, which will be retained in their current form and serve as a robust skeleton for the renovation and expansion. All fixtures of walls, built-in cabinets, and furniture will be distinctly different from the main structure to reveal an interplay between the existing structure and the renovation. A new full story of wood will be built on the roof of the school building for the specialized classes. The cubature of the roof directly refers to the expressionist roof form of the assembly hall and is cleverly woven into a structure of gable roofs. As a third element, the gymnasium takes on the defining external features of the ensemble in a similar abstract form.
