Porto Novo is a winning proposal by ULTRA Architettura designed in 2013. It is located in Porto Brandão Portugal in a seaside setting. Its scale is extralarge with a surface of 80.000 sqm. Concepts such as urban transformation pavimentation lightweight structure and nature are explored.

Porto Brandão, situated on the suburb of Almada, represents a potential “urban catalyst” because its territorial and landscape peculiarities. The project aims to give Porto Brandão the role of a new centrality on the Lisbon “outro lado” as a promoter of the metabolic city’s transformation and to revitalize its socio-economic and cultural scene. In particular, some project’s purposes like the waterfront development linked to the creation of a new port with a strong formal connotation and the reuse of old buildings in front of it, the revitalization of the area’s economy through the re-introduction of wine production around the Lazareto and processing of unused industrial areas in public places for culture and sociability supported by the inclusion of a public transport line will contribute to the creation of a sense of “place”, crosswise responding to specific needs of different generations in terms of “space” and “program facilities”, while enhancing their role in the city active life.
