The starting point of our concept is the desire to create a place of gathering, a place of remembrance, but also a place for the present and the future. By deciding to locate the essential functions below the existing elevation level, we succeed in generating a spacious square. The view of the eastern wing of the courthouse is revealed, enhancing its presence in the urban space. The square is held by the protected wall to the west and defined by a spatial functional wall to the east. This functional wall simultaneously encloses the eastern block development. It includes access and service elements as well as exhibition spaces (storefronts) in the form of walk-in display cases.

By strategically placing circular openings in the square, associated with different functions, visitors are drawn to the areas beneath the square. A light, also circular roof marks the main entrance. Visitors gradually enter the building via a spiral and arrive in the spacious foyer. Here, essential functions such as ticketing, information, and the shop are located. Directly adjacent to the south are the dining facilities, the student break area, and behind them, the administration. To the north, facing the eastern wing of the courthouse, exhibition and seminar areas are situated. Both areas share a common preparatory space and can also be used together.

From this preparatory area, visitors can reach the entrance to the eastern wing to explore the exhibition, including Hall 600, via a covered exterior staircase or an elevator. After leaving the existing building, visitors can return to the new building through this route or optionally directly to the new square.
