Refurbishment of the Piedad Colón Avenue in Borox is an honour mention proposal by Jiménez & Linares for Ayuntamiento de Borox in 2018. It is located in Borox Spain in an old town setting. Its scale is small with a surface of 800 sqm.
The project seeks to create a set with different images. On the one hand, it present places of transit and openair meeting, but at the same time it also accommodates spaces of stay, more protected and peaceful, such as the day center and the municipal library.
Between both, between the public space and the private one, architecture is developed, as a sort of threshold that communicates both worlds. In this sense, we face a dense and thick architecture, not only for the thickness of its walls, but for the depth of its arcades and galleries, dark spaces that protect from strong summer sun. A sober architecture, sensitive to popular forms, local materials and traditional arts and crafts of the area.
However, the image of the architecture is not limited to the facades. Conversely, the entire urban space on which the project is developed, Avenida Piedad Colón, is populated by interventions: banks, fountains, bus stops, children’s games, arbors … The set is inserted in a landscape intervention that respects practically all the existing trees, including new ones, as well as shrubs and low native vegetation.
As a result, the aim of the project is to create a walkway that brings together all the inhabitants of Borox, communicating and extending outdoors their two new facilities buildings
