Rifugio Tommaso Pedrotti Alla Tosa is a proposal by Duepunti Architetti for Società Alpinisti Tridentini in 2022. It is located in Trento Italy in a mountain setting. Its scale is small with a surface of 120 sqm a budget of 982.000 € and a ratio of 8.183 €/sqm. Key material is wood.

The design proposal is inspired by various themes: certainly from the magnificent context and superb, from the splendid panorama, from the rigor of the breath, of the steps and of the mountain techniques, from the concreteness of a backpack, from the reliability of the equipment, from the desire to simplify every process constructive at height.

The will is to create a place, a new level of vision, a new possibility; define a new profile to the useful, essential building, which turns towards solidity, the ability to deal with harsh climatic conditions, respectful of the harmony of nature, the peaks, the sky. The shape is the result of an extraction rather than an addition, it pursues the dynamics of the degradation of rocks as you ascend: lighten yourself, free yourself from unnecessary burdens, dematerialize, tend towards ecstasy.

A place of rest, relaxation, reflection, sharing, the upper terrace can be reached directly from the external helical staircase. New space to enjoy the view, a stone’s throw from your temporary nest, but also to take refuge, a stone’s throw from the stars, at any time of the year.

The interior spaces will be distributed on two levels: a lower one with 28 beds, and an upper one with 15 beds, which exploits the attic due to the more pronounced pitch slope (62.5%). The lower floor is accessed from the existing staircase, increased by 3 rises to recover the addition of the new thickness of the base structure.

As soon as you reach the new level, you will find yourself in a convivial space, a hallway open to the outside with large windows and furnished with Spartan seating, from where a second ramp will earn the second level of rooms.
