☉ Social Housing rehabilitation is a proposal by X+X and SiO2 arch designed in 2014. It is located in Gijón Spain in an urban setting. Its scale is small. Key materials are metal and glass. Concepts such as extension lightweight structure gallery sustainability folded facade thick wall and climate adaptation are explored.
The urban plan to rehabilitate the old town of Inuesa provides a uniqie oportunity to enhance energetic efficiency, accessibility and spatial quality of what used to be considered a vanguardist development. To achieve this goal the proposal incorporates galleries as active in-between spaces which have been prove historically in the given Cantabric region as bioclimatic devices and as a great strategy to reduce energetic demands. Lifts to be added by competition regulations, where embedded into the the galleries adjusting their position according to sun incidence. By this we maximize positive sunlight effects and promote new longer visual relations to the neighboring buildings and surroundings. The gallery space become an extension of the dwelling outside the facades, activating the neighbourhood while the shared spaces between buildings is qualified thanks to the newly stablished elements.
