The surfer´s relationship with nature is unique and fragile. Constantly moving around the world, these nomads are always seeking a dynamic nature composed of atmospheric changes own of each place. Therefore, you can´t develop a single project, Tarifa is just an excuse, the POP UP global project is the answer. A project that appears and disappears, a no place proposal that needs a continuous medium, obviously water is the root for all these activities. A project that can be transported and set up in every place, as a kind of festival that brings together the whole surfer community.

Dynamic landscape: people, weather, sea…

Over Tarifa skyline, a landscape composed of numerous layers is configured. We speak of an artificialised landscape by the activity, fleeting, changing and ephemeral. A dialogue between realities understood only in conjunction. The proposal adapts and completes this skyline created by boat`s sails, kites, waves and people.

The POP UP adventure

We focus on a structure of articulated and preassembled bamboo able to be easily folded. This structure is lighter and can be transported and quickly mounted anywhere, without undue machinery. Therefore, the structure is easy to carry, easy to assemble and easy to adapt…like and accordion. You just need to follow the next steps: opening the bamboo structure, stiffening with an auxiliary structure and finally, adapting the height to the occupation volume.

Self sufficient living. Water and wind

Power and electricity:
We can get the power by the use of two natural sources: wind and water. In addition, we use wave movement energy with a complete system under the building and also, propellers inside it.

Water supply:
We create what we call the umbrella system to purify water directly for the users. This system is configured with a transparent dome to catch sun rays, a bamboo structure to build this system and some special buckets to store water. It works really simple. The transparent dome creates a greenhouse effect what it provokes the water evaporation. Once the water vapor arrives to the dome surface above, it is condensed due to the temperature of this dome. The new water drops travel by this surface and fall into the popes that supply the water system in the building.

Waste management:
Waste management is solved like in a boat. Wastes are store and collected by a ship periodically.

Surfer life from a backpack

Our proposal talks about an architecture concerned about the environment. That´s why we use bamboo structure instead of steel, to reduce the carbon footprint, decreasing the CO2 in the atmosphere. Also, we create an open proposal to let people live without restrictions. The POP UP backpack lets you live in the way you feel. Under this postulate, we bet for a big, common space to share experiences, make partners and friends. A place whose architecture is created by its guests according their needs and preferences.

A complete set of the POP UP backpack is given to you when you arrive to the housing with the following instructions:

Step 01. Discover what’s inside:
Two folding chairs, a folding table and a folding cell called the shell.

Step 02. Configure your own space…
To fit your living space as you like, deploys your table and your chairs in one quick motion from the POP UP Tarifa backpack. Then open your shell and hang it from the ceiling to sleep or rest privately. Now, everything is ready!

Step 03. Enjoy and relax!
Once you have prepared it you can hang your hammock inside and close your shell to sleep, maybe you can open it to relax or just talk to somebody and also, you can join them to create different spaces or groups.
Mounting the shell is pretty simple and fast. You just need to get the pieces out from the backpack and open them carefully, then expand them totally and hang the naked structure. After these steps, cover the structures with the fabric pieces given, and that´s all. Now, turn the pieces as you like it. The shell has infinite positions.
