Selvagens are two houses for researchers, located in two inhospitable islands in Madeira. These huts are meant to support studies and preservation of the reserve ecosystem.

Conceptually, both houses are set from an identifiable and strict common grid, establishing however a distinct Object for each Site. The house in Selvagem Grande focus on the landscape, offering a contemplation and vigilance relation with the ocean. It sets in the slope, but rises from it for safety reasons. In a different context, the house in Selvagem Pequena encloses itself, focusing on its inner living, and establishing a relation with the exterior through the courtyard – the place of connection with the Site.

The construction is meant to be raw, setting an expression that seeks to be as impactful as integral.
