The project starts from a reworking of an architecture linked to the sardinian socio-cultural context. The project proposal analyses the typical Sardinian architecture of the “stazzo Gallurese”. This is re-interpreted through a series of elements that compose the building (form, materials, space, etc.): 

– The stazzo gallurese is developed with a rectangular floor plan, and this is retained in the proposal.
– The building has no openings to the outside with the exception of two overlapping doors used for the air recirculation. The stazzo spatially consists of a single room and all its extensions are along the longitudinal axis. These two features are combined in the project proposal. The stazzo house, generally, is characterized by a sloping roof.
– The walls are 80 cm thick and it is realized with local granite. This feature plays an important role in the proposal. This element is used in a symbolic manner. The wall becomes a container of functions, thus leading to greater liberty in the central space of the house.
– In the lower part of the main façade there is a bench with a depth of 50 cm and in some cases it extends along the entire façade of the building. Typically it was used for resting or as an aid element for climbing on the horse. In the proposal this element becomes the basement (granite) on which the building rests. This also guarantees a greater thermal insulation separating the building from the ground.

The building has a main wood structure, while the interior walls are designed in MDF panels. The floor surface is in recycled wood and the exterior panels are in local cork. All materials (wood, granite and cork) are an important part of the local tradition and they are still use today.
