The area of intervention is characterized by the constraints of its triangular shape and by the different levels of the terrain between Rua da Bela Vista and Estrada do Casquilho, on its western limit, which progressively thins out as Rua da Bela Vista rises towards the crossing road. The Bairro Rosa, to the east side of the plot, towards the valley, is the most relevant connection with Casquilho Puente’s district.

In urban terms, the design was conceived starting from the given implantation of 627 m2 that was split and extruded into two blocks of eight-storey to allocate no. 52 flats. This design choice is mainly related to the desire and needs to create a set of differentiated public spaces, with a defined hierarchy, capable of generating different experiences and responding to programmatic needs. The position of the buildings defines, on the one hand, the shape of urban spaces (related to outdoor social use), creating a sequence in which their entrances are part of the urban design.

The complexity of the program is distributed over the two buildings with a combination of mixed flats wisely designed on one typical floor that repeats to all floors for each block. The rationality of the standard floor plan on each block translates into the great economy of construction, but also in the possibility of working on the architectural aspects of the building based on the symmetry and repetition of elements, which will give simplicity to the details and a sense of solid integrity.
