Ascension is an academic project by Sophia Bengebara and Pauline Charles developed in 2015. It is located in Beauvais France in an urban setting. Its scale is large.

The scope of the project is the Re-generation of the sacred dimension in the Cathedral of Beauvais, nowadays a touristic monument.

Today, the practice of the worshippers is only embodied by the presence of candles, which become the tools of measuring the Cathedral and the material to Re-build disappeared or obsolete religious spaces!

By using the lost wax technique, the project is defined in a verticality specific to cathedrals, following an idea of technological innovation and a perpetual need to rise!

This process aims at Re- defining the religious practice and the place of the believer within the cathedral. By participating to the vertical pilgrimage he is also taking parts to the Re-creation of the place, through a temporary and temporal cycle!

Temporary according to the practice of the believer symbolised by the lapse of time from the appearance of the flame until the total combustion of the wax candle.

Temporal, because this wax which will pass from the state of candle to the state of material of construction going through a cycle in constant Re-generation.
