Burgdorf is a proposal by KH studio and ArchStudio developed in 2020. It is located in Bern Switzerland in an urban setting. Its scale is medium with a surface of 3.039 sqm a budget of 35.000.000 € and a ratio of 11.517 €/sqm. Key material is wood.

The project is a result of a swiss competition. It is situated in Bern and consist of a multi-use school building. The building contains of a lobby, a café and restrooms on the ground floor, and several classrooms on first floor. The work shops are located on the top floor. All floors are enriched by the vegetation on the roofs. The buildings consists of three stacked volumes and offers an offset with outdoor terraces. It’s used an environmental and sustainable stragety. The construction material of the entire building is mainly timber. The roof becomes a series of glued laminated beams. There are also skylight in the center of the building. The circulation of the building is located in the center and becomes part of a vertical spatial space. The facade has a certain minimal language that follows a grid system. The school filters today’s climate problems. The project is strong in that it steps up from the landscape, with large terrace areas that are accessible from the classrooms. The facade has different rhythms, to define the different parts of the room programs.
