Community centre and library St. Andreas is a proposal by kbg architekten for Catholic church Community St. Andreas Cloppenburg in 2020. It is located in Cloppenburg Germany in an old town setting. Its scale is medium with a surface of 4.500 sqm. Key material is brick.

Several two- and three storey buildings of different sizes but with a uniform materiality and architectural language, will shape the new churchyard area and represent the community towards the city in a contemporary way. The buildings are grouped gable around the historic baroque church. The parish garden with its lively variety of use possibilities is deliberately positioned on the site of the former acolyte’s house towards the city centre.

The community building is located on Loeninger Strasse, with access from both the street and the churchyard. The building masses are divided by the projections and recesses of the facades and the associated saddle and monopitch roofs. In this way, the buildings blend in with their surroundings in terms of scale and roof shape.

The staggered parts of the building with pitched roofs create identity and the main facades to the city. The churchyard can be reached from all sides through several entrances, invites to enter and shows its openness and permeability in the urban fabric. The historic church building can still be experienced as the center of the development. Views towards the church are guaranteed from all directions between the new buildings.
