Complex Medela Greenfield is a proposal by EM2N for Avair AG designed in 2013. It is located in Perlen Switzerland in an industrial setting. Its scale is large with a surface of 30.000 sqm. Key materials are glass and metal. The concept of ribs is explored.
The master plan takes up the parallel nature of the location’s morphology. All the functions are organized in parallel strips. As a gesture of respect to the heterogeneous surroundings and their different scales the largest volume, the production building, is moved to the centre of the site. The basic organization and structure of this building creates optimal routes, simple geometries and a compact volume. The round administration building stands in the middle of Medela Park on a deck that creates a terrace to the park. Together with the surrounding parkland the round building at the front functions as a kind of filter. The ground floor with the reception area opens through an atrium to the research and administration departments on the upper floors. The external appearance of the building is kept plain. The use of translucent materials lends the façade depth and creates an expression that can vary between solid and ephemeral.
