☉ Europan 14 : Amsterdam Papaverdriehoek is a second prize proposal by Mariagrazia Panunzio and Vincenzo Tuccillo for Europan in 2017. It is located in Amsterdam Netherlands in an urban setting. Its scale is medium with a surface of 5.000 sqm. Review the 4 proposals for the same competition.
The project is intended to start a personal reflexion over two levels: on the one hand urban forms and their potential to critically confront the specific city context, on the other typological variations related to changing social and economic conditions.
Within an area characterized by a highly fragmented ownership that implies bizarre plot shapes in the case of plot grouping, the strategy consists of occupying the edges with clearly defined forms and working on the generated voids as extensions of the collective domain. This principle could be freely adapted to different plot shapes and, on a wider level, these voids could be organized in a future network. In this first intervention, inner freed up space is the living core of the settlement: conceived as a semi-public space, here highly differentiated activities take place and discover a fertile meeting point. With the aim of being an alternative to dwellings blocks based on the exclusive presence of nuclear families, here a diversified three-dimensional mix of uses and typologies occurs.
