Extension of Cantina Valpolicella Negrar is a finalist proposal by Cavejastudio and Davide Lorenzato for Cantina Valpolicella Negrar designed in 2014. It is located in Negrar Italy in a countryside setting. Its scale is medium. Key materials are wood and glass. Concepts such as modulation ribs plinth and productive landscape are explored.

The design for the new winery Negrar Valpolicella maintains the existing building as the basis of the new intervention. We want the identity of the winery is rooted in the tradition of Valpolicella. All existing functions at the level 0, -1, -2 are kept as well-functioning, while new functions are integrated to the level 1. In addition to the existing building and to the office building we kept all the equipments: silos, destemmer newly installed, it weighs.

Penthouse: new building

The new project is placed above the existing building to allow better air circulation, as was the past, in typical attics of the Venetian tradition. As in “Venetian mansions” we have a solid ground floor topped by a wooden structure. The structure consists of wood trusses that are both architectural and support elements, visible from outside. The project has an outdoor covered supported by beams that recall the repetition of rows of vines.

Flexibility: modularity

The first level is understood as a large free, fully flexible space because built on a form of 2×2 meters, which can be divided by panels that slide on guides in the ceiling. The panels are opaque (loft) or transparent depending on the need. The use of panels allows a different heat treatment according to the functions, ensuring a controlled climate and constant that can be ventilated through skylights that open, from which it receives natural light modulated by dimming systems.
