Hoffmann Quartier is a thrid prize proposal by adpa designed in 2024. It is located in Münich Germany in an urban setting. Its scale is medium with a surface of 8.500 sqm. Key materials are concrete and wood. The Hoon Studio collaborated as visualizer. Concepts such as adaptable reuse aggregation and balcony are explored.

Carrying history forward. The site is located south of the railway tracks and west of the Pasing Arcaden. In this mixed-use area, community gardens and railway tracks characterize the northern section, while heterogeneous developments shape the urban landscape to the east. This edge along the main roads contrasts with the perforation of green spaces and courtyards within the block’s interior. After the original company building was destroyed during World War II, the company rebuilt their headquarters at its current location. With the move to its new headquarters in Freiham, the Hoffmann Group is opening a new chapter and releasing the current site to continue their story. The existing structures are consistently evaluated with the principles of reuse and further development in mind. The real added value lies in the history of the existing buildings. The establishment of company housing for employees serves as a element of identity and reinforces the Hoffmann Group’s image as a holistic employer.

The one-story production building in the center of the block will be demolished to open up the courtyard, creating space for landscaping and green areas. At the same time, the facades and roofs of the existing buildings are being dismantled down to the concrete structure. The structure of the existing buildings is characterized by a highly flexible and efficient concrete skeleton frame. Originally designed for office use, the buildings feature generous ceiling heights, making their conversion to residential use straightforward. To establish the courtyard as the heart of the new development, three new structures will be introduced, functioning as «shelves.» These serve for access, seclusion, and connection to the courtyard. Through these measures, the existing site is being transformed into a new residential quarter. Its long history contributes a significant identity-forming element for future Hoffmann Group employees as well as for all other new residents.
