After several years studying different possibilities in the ETEA, the institute of Marine Research (IMM) together with the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) and the Ministry of Science, will be the first institution to establish its base in the old military complex. The main studies developed in the IMM are related to technology and science of the sea and its relationship with the local linked economies with a strong activity in Vigo, Galicia and Spain. After the studies realized by Fundación RIA, the programme for the new IMM was defined according to the analysis of the environment and the local community of Teis. In addition, the new centre with more than 350 employees, will collaborate with the University of Vigo and other research centres located in ETEA. The proposal interprets the rhythm of the pre-existence and generates clear structures where the laboratories and offices work in continuum with it. This system gives the IMM the opportunity to distribute the several units of investigation with autonomy and self-determination in accordance with its requirements.
