Playa Dorada Leisure Complex in Noja is a thrid prize competition entry by COBO – DONOSO Arquitectos and NO.MAD Arquitectos developed in 2023. It is located in Noja Spain in an undefined setting. Its scale is large with a surface of 10.630 sqm a budget of 5.445.000 € and a ratio of 512 €/sqm. Key material is metal.

A building that is inserted into the urban fabric from a subtle volumetrics and aesthetics, while attractive and suggestive, its vocation being to try to put silent order in the heterogeneous diversity that exists around it. The new building proposes with its external perimeter a compact volumetry and a quasi-transparent image of what happens inside. This is done through a folded façade made of microperforated material, which encourages one to look inward and perceive the sports landscape and its activities.

The roof, in a single plane of translucent material, guarantees diffused natural lighting throughout the year and controls the incidence of the sun to avoid possible reflections. The level of the courts’ platform makes up a North-South directional sports landscape, where the different structural openings allow changes in the location of the courts in the future, giving the system’s organizational flexibility. Likewise, a circulation system separates the different sports courts. It has mobile bleachers associated to the courts, to watch the competitions or rest.
