Sala prove del Teatro dell'Opera di Roma Capitale is a proposal by Matteo Romanelli for Impreme Sud SRL in 2024. It is located in Rome Italy in an outskirt setting. Its scale is medium with a surface of 1.478 sqm a budget of 2.750.000 € and a ratio of 1.861 €/sqm. Key materials are concrete and metal. Concepts such as broken volume corner and usable roof are explored.

The design idea arises from the study and in-depth analysis of the meaning of the Rehearsal Room: an antechamber of the actual theater, within which human activity is the characterizing and connotative element of the environment in question. A space in which fantasy, imagination and ideas are transformed into matter, rehearsing, building, editing, assembling and creating the scene that will then be installed inside the theater. A place in continuous evolution, dynamic by nature, comparable to a real factory, but at the same time wonderful, because it is connected to the theater as an antechamber of the same, which in a minimal part, sharpening the senses, could reveal the mechanisms that determine the sudden presence of astonishing elements. The concept of wonder, just like the moment in which the red curtain opens that allows spectators to enter an out of the ordinary and imaginative world, contaminates and elevates the factory, an earthly place, transforming it into a fantastic and discoverable space.

An amazing element, capable of attracting a multitude of people, visitors, human beings who take a journey, witnessing events out of the ordinary. The space is transformed, bright and large environments alternate with smaller and more private places, an alternation that amazes and intrigues. An experience that must be lived collectively, a characteristic of both the factory, within which the work is connected to the interaction and help of other people, and of the theater, a place in which the need to use all the senses involves a strong interaction with other spectators. Crossing a wonderful place, full of unusual elements, determines a renegotiation of one’s expectations and at the same time involves the need for sharing, for the need of others, also to orient oneself in space.
