The Usine a Gaz theatre in Nyon is an important and well known cultural center that hosts many events. The most important of all is the Visions du Réel festival, an international documentary film festival founded by Moritz de Hadeln , who later headed the Locarno International Film Festival, the Berlin International Film Festival and the Venice International Film Festival. The project aims to expand the cultural influence of the Usine a Gaz by creating a mixed‐use building with a new foyer, new theatre equipments and a bigger theatre hall for theatre plays, dance performances, concerts and conferences. It was also required to project ten apartments, some offices and a 43 car parks in the underground floor. The character of the building is the result of the simple and clear structural concept which is expressed formally in the facades and spatially in the inside.
