Şehitkamil Art Center is a selected proposal by Çağlar Aydın and Ahmet Kürkçü designed in 2016. It is located in Gaziantep Türkiye in an urban setting. Its scale is medium. Key material is concrete.

It is requested to design an art center on top of an existing underground parking structure that is accessed by an entrance tunnel at the south. The site is placed next to the municipality building of Gaziantep and within a commercial area. The design proposes to adapt itself to the existing underground by keeping the entrance ramp and continuity of structural system. Considering densely populated urban site, the design aims to offer maximum publicity and accessibility on ground level, which is achieved by creating shortcut passages, which lead to the boundries. To strengthen the publicity, the cafe and the exhibition hall designed transparently on this level. Public benches, which are attached to the structural system, contribute urban life by offering recreational areas. The hot climate of Gaziantep is considered by designing such shady spaces at ground level and maximum solid surfaces at upper levels. The shelter of parking entrance is used as amphitheater steps, which leads the foyer of the main hall. The volumes of the building designed harmonically following the building’s program.
