Spirala community home is a selected competition entry by SBSA Architetti developed in 2021. It is located in Proença-a-Velha Portugal in a forest setting. Its scale is small with a surface of 120 sqm. Key material is concrete.

Six walls are arranged to form an exact geometric system. The repetition and arrangement of the walls create a more complex shape reminiscent of the spiral. The project recalls the idea of community: as the single person actively participates within a group in the awareness of being important to each other, so the single architectural element is repeated and aggregated to give shape to a coherent space. The individual flows into the group to draw strength.

The building therefore communicates the idea of collective participation by welcoming the users who come from around it. The building extends towards the outside generating a movement of the user. It is observed from different points of view, it changes as we turn around it in a tension and dialogue between internal and external spaces. Basic shapes and compositional simplicity, where every gesture is reduced to a minimum, give the spiral building a decisive and peremptory expressiveness
