Unlike the traditional type of the enclosed villa, the new Swiss Embassy takes part of the urban district of Yaounde Bastos as a compact and introverted building. The volume extends at the entire lot and by being empty inside offers two hidden spaces, offering the architectural control of the controlled access and security. The representation of the values of the country is delegated to the robust construction and the simplicity of the image of the building. Long continuous walls, designed to be read as vertical shadows define the space of the embassy. Viridarium and impluvium: as the noble Roman dwelling type, the spaces are organized around two interior patios with different proportions and different characters. The first space has a public character, to which overlook the accessible spaces and waiting areas. It leads to the spaces of representation of the ambassador’s residence. The second is a larger space, bright and with a wonderful garden. This patio is a more private and appears as a natural extension of the space of representation that extends along the body in parallel to the street. The concrete facade by the prefabricated modules, as well as the cast of the interior and exterior floors is made of laterite aggregates. The frames and all the works of smith are made of Corten steel.
