Concepts such as circle shape sloped roof and nature are explored.
The new kindergarten in Prato Ottesola integrates seamlessly into the Val d’Arda’s hilly landscape as a self-sufficient structure. Its circular design, inspired by the Roman cistern at Veleia, provides a clear, child-friendly form while enhancing the connection between interior spaces and nature through extensive glazing. Fully openable window-door modules facilitate indoor-outdoor flow, particularly in warmer months, extending activities into a garden organized into ‘educational islands’ shaped by simple geometries like circles, lines, and triangles, each supporting specific functions. The functional arrangement of classrooms and adjoining spaces is conceived to prioritize flexibility and spatial adaptability. Encased within a circular design, the layout—defined by movable panels and adjustable partitions—eliminates conventional circulation areas, thereby optimizing the usable space. This approach transforms the building into a versatile environment, capable of hosting diverse interactions and collective activities. Beyond its primary educational role, the structure functions as a civic catalyst, integrating into the social fabric by accommodating cultural and community events. The school thus establishes itself as a territorial landmark, promoting and sustaining interpersonal and intergenerational connections within the community
