Close to Regensburg’s UNESCO World Heritage Old Town, a multifaceted new urban block is being created on the site of a former carpet factory. The independent, single-storey elevated base level integrates a wide variety of uses, such as a supermarket and bakery. Spacious staircases lead up to the green rooftop on the 1st floor, where we find a daycare center and a youth center, as well as some small private gardens belonging to some of the apartments. The residential development, divided into three buildings with a wide variety of typologies and apartment sizes, is located on the floors above. The mix of subsidized and privately financed apartments complements the existing housing supply in the area. The result is an urban building block for all generations and stages of life.
