☉ Residential Care Centre in Falzes is a finalist proposal by Cavejastudio and DENARA designed in 2023. It is located in Falzes Italy in an outskirt setting. Its scale is medium with a surface of 7.500 sqm an estimated budget of 25.000.000 € and a ratio of 3.333 €/sqm. Key materials are plaster and wood. Giacomo Tampelli collaborated as visualizer. Concepts such as l shape sloped roof and thick wall are explored.
The residential care center in Falzes was designed as a new “village” that is rooted in the rock and overlooks the majesty of the mountains that surround it. The desire is that the inhabitants do not feel closed in a clinic, but to be inside an urban space, to walk through the alleys, stop in the squares and enjoy the greenery that extends all around. The architectural project starts from the construction of a base that, nestled in the slope, houses the three volumes that organize the center. The two main juxtaposed volumes are parallel to the contour lines while the third is perpendicular; in their aggregation they build a protected internal courtyard that dialogues with the landscape. On a paved square that connects the base with the rest of the town, the main entrance opens, protected by a volumetric overhang. Upon entering, you access the “covered square” of the entrance that organizes the accesses: on one side there are the clinics, the administration and the chapel and on the other you enter the purely residential area.
The residential and assistance areas are located in the two main volumes to the south. The rooms are distributed by a central corridor that expands near the vertical connections and the common areas and projects outwards through green loggias. The homes for selfsufficient elderly people are instead located in the third smaller volume for greater independence given by a private entrance directly from the street. A direct connection to the common areas of the complex is however guaranteed. Considering that all the service areas are located in the basement, part of the land around it has been appropriately modeled so that the rooms such as the kitchen and the laundry can enjoy natural ventilation and lighting. The material aspect of the project deals with the memory and the built context of these territories to integrate the building both with the places and with the experiences of the people. The building is completely plastered and has a metal shingle roof, while the external floors are in stone.
